Dani-Elle Dubé and Aedan Helmer's winning entry draws attention to Ontario's aging population, and the desperate need for support systems, especially when it comes to end-of-life care. Dani-Elle is a multimedia journalist with the Ottawa Sun and has been in this role since September 2014. Although her beat is health, she covers a variety of other topics, such as general news, politics and crime. Dani-Elle graduated from journalism school one year ago, but has freelanced for several years for magazines and newspapers. She has also worked in television broadcasting. She describes herself as driven, passionate and compassionate, characteristics she feels she needs to be a well-rounded health reporter. This is Dani-Elle's first journalism award. Aedan is a multimedia journalist with the Ottawa Sun, covering a wide range of topics and working on a variety of special projects. Since starting his journalism career in 2006 as the Sun's general assignment reporter, he has written for every section of the newspaper. He currently specializes in feature writing, special projects and investigative journalism. This is Aedan's second award, having won for best campus news story in the 2007 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards competition.
