How was this Toolkit Developed?

In response to the passage of the Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA), 2010 (Bill 46) and shortly thereafter, the 2011 Ontario Public Health Organizational Standards, RNAO established the CNE / CNO Governance and Leadership Advisory Committee to guide the development of resources to support nurse executives in Ontario as they adopted new governance and leadership responsibilities. The CNE/CNO Governance and Leadership Advisory Committee Members consist of representatives from public health associations, including the Association of Nursing Directors and Supervisors in Official Health Agencies in Ontario and the Community Health Nurses’ Initiatives Group, as well as from the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario and the Nursing Leadership Network. Each representative lends their nurse executive perspective to provide expert advice and guidance to RNAO on the provision of resources to support nurse executives in their governance and leadership roles including the development, implementation, and promotion of:

  1. Nurse Executive Leader Toolkit,
  2. Nurse Executive Knowledge Exchange Teleconferences and
  3. Nurse Executive Leadership Academy.

The Nurse Executive Leader Toolkit was introduced at the first annual Nurse Executive Leadership Academy held March 25th- 28th 2012 and published online, based on the current state of knowledge with the intent to remain evergreen and responsive to further legislative and regulatory changes.
