This best practice guideline initiative is focused on preventing and addressing abuse and neglect of older adults throughout various health-care institutions and community settings in Canada.
Funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, the initiative will include an evidence based best practice
guideline, a strategy for dissemination, implementation and evaluation, practice tools, an e-learning program, and a plain-language resource for the public.
The initiative builds on the success of a project entitled ‘Promoting the Awareness of Elder Abuse in Long-Term Care’, a RNAO and Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) collaborative, also funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. This collaborative project launched the Prevention of Elder Abuse Centres of Excellence (PEACE) in 2010 in 10 long-term care homes across the country. Get more information about the PEACE project .
