Urge our government to stop the deplorable persecution of LGBT individuals internationally

Despite the great strides made in LGBT rights in the last few decades, it is shocking to see that LGBT individuals continue to be persecuted by governments in 77 countries, with 10 having a death penalty. Most recently, reports coming from Chechnya indicate that over 100 Chechen men suspected of being gay are being held in secret prisons, and at least three have been killed.

Chechen government officials continue to deny reports of imprisonment and murder of men suspected of having a "nontraditional sexual orientation." They even refuse to admit that LGBT individuals exist in Chechnya. A spokesperson for the regional government said that it was not possible to “detain or harass anyone who is simply not present in the republic.” The spokesperson added, “If such people existed in Chechnya, law enforcement would not have to worry about them, as their own relatives would have sent them to where they could never return.”

Urge our government to take action to stop the deplorable persecution of LGBT individuals internationally.
