Registed Nurses' Association of Ontario

Statement on terrorist attack at Quebec mosque

Ontario's registered nurses, nurse practitioners and nursing students are horrified and heartbroken by Sunday's fatal shooting at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec. It is unconscionable that our fellow Canadians could be targeted for violence simply because of their faith. Our thoughts are with the victims' loved ones at this difficult time.

This tragedy reminds us that our country is not immune to those who promote fear and hate. The outpouring of support from Canadians reinforces our core values as a diverse, tolerant, and welcoming home for all people.

We stand together with the Muslim community, the city of Quebec, and all Canadians against this heinous act. More than ever, we must unite with empathy, respect and love so that no one among us is forced to live in fear.

Please join a march/vigil in a community near you to honour those we have lost.
