Older people deserve to feel safe - RNAO speaks out about death of a resident at a Toronto nursing home

RNAO says the province has an obligation to the families and to seniors who seek shelter in long-term care.

Last week, news broke about the assault of two women, both residents of a Toronto nursing home. The attack left one dead.

We are calling for an inquiry into this incident.

RNAO has gone on record saying that “Nothing short of an independent investigation will uncover the circumstances and systemic issues that led to this outrageous tragedy.

Nurses know that quality care for seniors cannot happen without adequate staff.

For over a decade, RNAO has submitted numerous reports to MOHLTC that outline urgent actions that must be taken to improve the staffing levels in long-term care homes.
