The Council of the Federation supports recommendations from nursing community
On July 27, in Halifax, the Council of the Federation, comprised of Canada's premiers and territorial leaders, met to discuss how to further strengthen Medicare, our most cherished social program.
The premiers received a report from the Working Group on Health Care Innovation, 'From Innovation to Action,' which focuses on three areas of priority: clinical practice guidelines; team-based models; and health human resource management.
RNAO was delighted to be a leading member of the clinical practice guidelines working group, in collaboration with the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
The report recommends the adoption of RNAO's Guideline for the 'Assessment and Management of Foot Ulcers for People With Diabetes.' The Council of Federation's support of this recommendation is a first important step in recognizing that transformation of our country's health-care system must be grounded in evidence to improve patient care.
We applaud Canada's premiers for putting this principle at the forefront of their health-care mission. We also need a strong federal partner that will offer adequate funding, uphold the principles and spirit of the Canada Health Act, and provide bold leadership to expand programs that will further strengthen Medicare.
We urge the prime minister to get back to the table and commit to signing a Health Accord in 2014.
We can make this happen, together.
