Wed, 2016-03-23 11:00 - 12:00
Webinar
About this Event:

The Strengthening Your Voice (SYV) program was created by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the Opioid Peer Education Network advisory group in 2012. It was developed to train people with lived experience of prescription opioid problems and their family members to tell their stories publicly.

The goals of the program are to raise awareness and educate people about the dangers of prescription opioids, humanize the issue of opioid misuse, reduce stigma, and change negative attitudes towards people with lived experience of opioid problems.

Objectives
During this presentation, participants will learn how to:

  • Introduce the Strengthening Your Voice training program for people with lived experience of prescription opioid problems.
  • Describe the impact that sharing stories publicly has on people’s personal well-being.
  • Describe the impact of hearing stories of lived experience on stigma reduction and reduction of negative attitudes towards people with problematic opioid use or those who are receiving opioid dependence therapy.
  • Discuss the importance of sharing lived-experience stories as a form of system-level evidence.
