Nursing: A World of Opportunities

Nurses can work in a variety of roles and across many health sectors. This webinar will showcase the unique role of a harm reduction nurse and the impact of the role on patients and beyond. Victory Lall will share some insight on her work and experience, along with some tips that helped her along the way.

Presenter(s) and Credentials: Victory Lall, RN

Victory has five years' experience in community nursing working with people who have drug dependencies, sex workers and people who have experience with homelessness and poverty in the city of Toronto. Previously working at Street Health Community Nursing Foundation and in her current position at The Works Needle Exchange at Toronto Public Health, Victory has developed a passion for serving the complex needs of people who use drugs and the unique challenges they face. Through her work as a front line harm reduction nurse, she has trained both drug users and clinicians on the diagnosis and management of acute overdose. Victory was instrumental in developing an outreach initiative to improve access and utilization of naloxone distribution at The Works Needle Exchange. Another focus her current position involves advocating for recognition of gender in the delivery of harm reduction as a way of enhancing ethical practice. Victory's care is trauma informed. Victory is committed to advocacy and is involved with many community initiatives including Reclaim the Streets, Bad Date Coalition, Ontario Coalition Against Poverty and Take Back the Night. .

During this presentation, participants will get the opportunity to:

  • Gain some insight on the daily life of a harm reduction nurse
  • Find out how to get involved in street nursing
  • Learn about advocacy in the nursing role
