This award honours a nursing student who is a role model for professionalism and contributes to the advancement of RNAO/NSO within his/her nursing program. This student also acts as resource for other nursing students.
Vikky Leung is wrapping up her fourth year of nursing studies at Ryerson University in Toronto. In addition to her involvement with RNAO’s Nursing Students of Ontario interest group as a policy and political action officer, Vikky is an active member of the association’s Rainbow Nursing Interest Group. She attended a Queen’s Park rally in May 2012 in support of legislation that would allow students to set up gay-straight clubs in their schools. She is also a member of the Canadian Nursing Students Association.
Her nominator describes her as an exceptional ambassador for Ryerson University and its School of Nursing. Vikky works in tandem with nursing faculty, representing students’ concerns and needs related to its curriculum in a professional and proactive manner. Last year, she co-ordinated 40 student volunteers to welcome incoming first year students and organize orientation activities. She is also a hard-working student who is able to take on various leadership roles while maintaining academic success as well as a part-time position at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.
