Steve Buist, Hamilton Spectator
“Cancer: A Code Red Project”
Steve Buist is an investigative reporter and features writer at the Hamilton Spectator. He is responsible for producing extensive pieces, such as the highly-acclaimed Code Red project. The series, which began in 2010, examines the connections between health and poverty by mapping the health of Hamiltonians. Over his career, Steve has won three National Newspaper Awards. He’s been named the Canadian Association of Journalists’ Investigative Journalist of the Year three times, and is a three-time Ontario Journalist of the Year. Steve believes health and health care are two of the most important issues currently facing Ontarians and their political leaders. Equitable health care and, more notably, equitable access to health care, he says, is a vital issue.
